Position Summary

The Stage Technician Trainee is a seasonal, part-time role designed to develop the next generation of Flyspace stage professionals. Trainees will work alongside our experienced Stage Technicians to support the operation, setup, maintenance, and teardown of the Stageline Mobile Stage Fleet and related production equipment.

Flyspace will invest in structured training on our stage systems, workflows, safety protocols, and operational standards. Trainees will gain hands-on experience in mobile stage operations, warehouse preparation, and live event execution. High-performing trainees may be sponsored to pursue Stageline stage operation certification as appropriate.

At the conclusion of the season, three to four of the strongest performers will be offered full-time, year-round positions with full benefits, creating a long-term growth pathway within the organization.

Work will primarily occur at our warehouse on Pittsburgh’s Northside, as well as at event locations throughout the region.


Program Goals

  • Build a deeper bench of capable, safety-focused technicians during peak months.
  • Develop trainees into certified, operationally proficient stage technicians.
  • Identify and retain top performers for long-term employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Training & Skill Development

  • Participate in structured training on Stageline mobile stage systems and Flyspace operational workflows.
  • Learn proper ballasting, weight distribution, and temporary structure safety fundamentals.
  • Develop proficiency with tools, equipment, and vehicles under supervision.
  • Follow all OSHA, Stageline, and Flyspace safety protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn, ask questions, and accept feedback.

Event Setup & Teardown Support

  • Assist with setup, operation, and teardown of mobile stages and production infrastructure.
  • Support staging, rigging, and equipment deployment under supervision.
  • Follow technical plans and instructions provided by Lead Technicians and Operations Manager.
  • Assist with loading/unloading trucks and organizing gear for projects.

Equipment Preparation & Maintenance

  • Help clean, inspect, and prepare stages and production equipment.
  • Support equipment organization and staging for upcoming projects.
  • Monitor equipment usage on-site to ensure safe handling.
  • Report equipment issues to leadership.

Warehouse & Fleet Support

  • Assist with routine maintenance of mobile stages and production equipment.
  • Support packing/unpacking and inventory management.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of warehouse spaces.

Teamwork & Professional Conduct

  • Work collaboratively with Supervisors, Technicians, and event crews.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally on job sites.
  • Represent Flyspace’s values of professionalism, quality, and safety at all times.
  • Maintain punctuality and reliability throughout the season.

Work Schedule

This is a seasonal, part-time position with hours based on event demand during peak months.

  • Includes weekends, evenings, overnight hours, and some holidays.
  • Workdays may exceed 10 hours during events.
  • Regional travel required; occasional overnight stays possible.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred (clean driving record strongly encouraged).
  • Reliable transportation to and from worksites.
  • Ability to pass background screening and obtain Act 153 Clearances.
  • No prior stage experience required — willingness to learn is essential.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Mechanical aptitude or technical curiosity preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly.
  • Ability to climb ladders (4’–16’) and operate lifts (training provided).
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Commitment to safety and professionalism.

Growth & Advancement Opportunity

Flyspace plans to hire up to ten Stage Technician Trainees for the season. At the end of the seasonal term:

  • Three to four top-performing trainees will be offered full-time, year-round employment.
  • Selected team members may pursue Stageline certification.
  • Full-time roles include expanded responsibilities, certification support, and full benefits.

This program is designed to provide both immediate operational support and a long-term pathway into a skilled technical career at Flyspace.


Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and work for extended periods.
  • Must be comfortable working in warehouse and outdoor event environments.
  • Must be comfortable operating power tools and learning new equipment systems.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Must be able to independently travel to off-site locations.
